The National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. (“NABA”, “we”, “us”, and “our”) respects individual privacy and values the confidence of our members, program participants, and our stakeholders. This Privacy Policy sets out the privacy principles that we follow with respect to the collection, use, and disclosure of information that you may provide to NABA. In doing so, we aim to be transparent about how we collect and process your information. This Privacy Policy applies solely to information collected by and shared with NABA and its selected business partners.
We encourage you to read this Policy before using our website(s) and providing your personal data to us through our websites and at our events you may attend. Use of our event registration platforms, event/program Apps, and website(s), including but not limited to NABA’s Corporate website: www.nabainc.org, Annual Convention registration site, Annual Convention Virtual platform, NABA Member App’s, Event Registration site’s, Web splash pages and third-party applications used to service members such as Zoom, Constant Contact, Eventbrite, GroupMe etc., signifies that you understand and agree with all practices and terms of this Policy.
Information We Collect About You
We are the sole owners of the information collected on behalf of NABA unless otherwise disclosed. NABA collects data from members, customers, and stakeholders with the intention of providing the best level of service. It is our overall policy to collect only personally identifiable information that you voluntarily provide. The types of personal information we collect vary based on the programs, services, and products you wish to engage in, but generally includes your name, postal address, email address, phone number, gender, date of birth, education, employment information, and professional designations achieved. We may collect additional personal information from you on occasion as needs arise. Any personal data you provide will enable us to keep you informed, process your requests, or offer services to you with respect to our programs and products.
Profile on NABA Now: When you create a profile on our community platform, NABA Now, we will collect the information that you elect to upload to your profile, such as biography, your education and job history, and professional information. Other registered users of NABA Now may also view your profile information. You should carefully consider whether you wish to submit personal data and tailor any content you submit appropriately. Your participation in NABA Now will also be subject to the community platform’s Terms and Conditions, and the Community Rules & Etiquette and Privacy Guidelines.
NABA Career Hub: When you submit your resume and provide contact information to join the NABA Career Hub, NABA and the participating corporate partners will collect the information that you elect to include in your response, profile, and resume. In addition, potential employers will be able to view your profile and resume information.
NABA may use marketing analytic tools such as Google Analytics on our websites. When you visit our websites, we may collect certain information automatically such as device type, browser type, operating system, domain, page views, click through-source, usage, and similar data from your visits to our websites. We use the foregoing information in the form of summary statistics to help us make our websites more useful to our visitors, such as assessing what information is of most and least interest. Information voluntarily provided to us through membership applications, registration portals, emails, etc., will be used to learn from and support your experience as a member/ stakeholder. At times, your information may be shared with partners as part of our efforts to enhance member benefits. How to Access and Update Information
NABA members may access and update your personal information by logging in your NABA website account and utilizing the “My Profile” setting function, or by contacting us atinfo@nabainc.org. In addition, you may request a copy of the information NABA holds about you so you can correct or amend information that may be inaccurate or incomplete by contacting us at info@nabainc.org. We may ask you to provide sufficient evidence of your identity for your own protection so we can ensure that information is being released to the correct person. In some cases, our business requirements and legal obligations may prevent us from being able to delete your information.
How We Use Information
NABA uses information voluntarily submitted by members and customers in the following ways:
- To provide you with programs, products, services, or information you have requested from NABA
- To develop new and improved services/ programs by analyzing trends and by measuring demographics and interests regarding specific areas of NABA (including the website)
- To communicate with you about your NABA membership profile
- To process payments, including membership dues, registration fees, subscriptions, voluntary donations, and products and services. Please also review the section entitled “Credit Card Information” for further detail.
- To administer and facilitate our programs and registration processes with our partners/ providers
- To manage your participation in NABA governance activities, such as National, Regional and Local Board meetings, committees, and other volunteer leadership roles and opportunities
- To provide you with prompt and effective customer service
- To support the operations of NABA such as account maintenance and recordkeeping, troubleshooting problems, resolving disputes, and for internal controls and audits
- To inform you about programs, products, and services offered by NABA and/or its contracted business partners
- To provide advertisements that are consistent with NABA’s organizational purpose
- To conduct surveys for NABA or stakeholder/ partners
- To carry out NABA’s National governing processes including but not limited to, the National Elections process
- To promote networking, fellowship and career opportunities between and for members
There are a number of different basis on which we will process your personal data, depending on the type of data and the purpose. Generally, we will process your personal data to provide you with the programs, products, services, and information that you have requested from us or where it is necessary to provide the benefits expected by you (i.e., membership benefits). If none of these conditions apply, we may process your personal data in instances when it is in our legitimate interests and in alignment with the purposes defined in this Policy.
Unless a longer retention period is required by applicable laws or regulations, we will retain your information for as long as your NABA account is active, as well as for an additional period afterwards to cover any outstanding issues or queries that may arise in relation to your account. This period of retention is subject to our review and alteration. In addition, NABA may keep your personal data for a longer period as required by law or as needed in legal proceedings or to fulfill NABA;s legitimate interest.
Cookies
We use cookies to make NABA’s websites easier to use and to better tailor our services to your interests and needs which may expedite your future activities and experiences on our websites. We also use cookies to compile anonymous, aggregated statistics to help us improve our website’s structure and content. We cannot identify you personally from this information. How We Share and Disclose Information
NABA will not sell your personally identifiable information to anyone. NABA may disclose your personal data to third parties to enhance member benefits. For example, NABA may share your information with carefully selected business partners, such as our corporate partners, sponsors, and conference exhibitors whose products and services may be of interest to our members. All business partners are obligated to implement opt-out mechanisms and honor any opt-out requests by email recipients in compliance with applicable laws.
Your personal information may be used by a third-party data processor acting as an agent of NABA for operational support purposes. Our third-party data processors are required to securely maintain your personal data, following regulations and best practices. Further, personal data will be disclosed only to contracted third-party service providers under the following categories:
Technology/Operations
- Hosting facilities to securely store, transmit, and process your data
- Technology solution providers who assist in the development of our software platforms
- Credit card processors to securely process your payments to NABA
- Compliance authorities we utilize for legal issues, audits, and tax purposes
- Mailing houses for the fulfillment of our products and services
- Identity management providers for user access to confidential information
- Legal authorities to comply with an inquiry made regarding a subpoena, warrant, or other court order
Marketing/Communications
- Advertising, marketing, and social media providers to conduct targeted advertisements related to professional development and educational opportunities
- To conduct surveys and studies on behalf of NABA
- Reporting and analytic tools to allow data mining and monitoring
- Affiliate partners to provide special offers as a benefit to our members
- Marketing automation solutions to provide outbound email marketing services
Product and Services
- Third-party call centers to conduct outreach initiatives on behalf of NABA regarding our programs, products, and services
- Learning platform providers who develop, host, and store information related to Continuing Professional Education (CPE) products
- Online community platform providers to allow member/customer networking benefits
- Event solution providers for the hosting and delivery of webinars and conferences, including onsite support
- Verification purposes related to member credentials
When you terminate your membership or cancel the website account access, NABA may continue to share information about you according to our legal and regulatory requirements.
Notwithstanding the foregoing, NABA may disclose your personal information as required by law or as needed in legal proceedings when NABA believes in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request.
In addition, in the event of a merger, acquisition, or any form of sale or transfer of some or all of our assets to a third party, we may also disclose your personal information to the third parties concerned or their professional advisors. In the event of such a transaction, the personal information held by NABA will be among the assets subject to the transaction.
Security Measures
We want you to feel confident and take the necessary precautionary steps are taken to ensure your data is being protected.
NABA takes technical, contractual, administrative, and physical security steps to protect the personal data that you provide and we have implemented numerous security features to prevent the unauthorized release of or access to personal data. NABA restricts access to your personal data by our employees by only allowing it on an as-needed basis for the purpose of providing benefits, programs, products, or services to you. In addition, NABA employees are trained about the importance of confidentiality and maintaining the privacy and security of your personal data.
While every effort is made to maintain the privacy and security of your personal data, our security practices, processes, or technology do not guarantee absolute security of your information. It is in your best interest to take all normal personal precautions as well. Examples of precautions you can take are but are not limited to, not sharing passwords, closing browsers when not using them, and not using public networks (e.g., internet cafes, etc.). Wherever we collect any personal information on our site, that information is encrypted and transmitted to us in a secure manner. By looking for “https” at the beginning of the address of the web page, this can be verified.
When you submit information to NABA through our website, you should be aware that your information is transmitted across the Internet and that no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. Although we take reasonable security measures to protect your information when we receive it, you also need to ensure you take appropriate steps to protect your information.
Credit Card Information
NABA does not disclose credit card information provided by its members and customers. When members and customers choose to pay using their credit cards, NABA submits the information needed through a secure payment gate service to conduct the transactions.
Communications From NABA
Except for transactional emails necessary to perform NABA’s contractual obligations, you can unsubscribe from receiving NABA promotional emails or update your preference by following the instructions included in each email communication, or by contacting us at info@nabainc.org.
Third-Party Websites
NABA’s websites may contain links to other Internet websites. Unless we explicitly state otherwise, we have no control over these third-party sites and their privacy practices, and this Privacy Policy applies only to information you supply (or that we collect) in connection with use of NABA’s websites. You should review third-party privacy policies in connection with visiting NABA’s websites.
Social Media Widgets
The website includes social media features, such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and LinkedIn buttons, that run on our websites. These features may collect your Internet Protocol address and which page you are visiting on our website, and may set a cookie to enable the feature to function properly. Social media features and widgets are either hosted by a third party or hosted directly on our Site. Your interactions with these features are governed by the privacy policy of the company providing it.
